The Countess Lia is hosting a gorgeous charity gala. Among the generous bids of all the celebrities, Roark, a multimillionaire, makes a scene and embraces her. “It’s almost as if they’re trying to buy you at an auction. But I’m the one who’s going to win the right to take you to bed,” he says, offering her a million dollars. Lia allows him to take her to the middle of the dance floor, and suddenly he steals a lustful kiss against her will. The passion nearly drowns her. But what will happen when she hears that he’s the man who indirectly caused the deaths of her father and younger sister?

The writing was superb and the setting flowed. I have to say Roark is an ass through and through, to put it in polite terms. While I can understand how wrong it is to deny a man the knowledge that he has a child, Roark made it very clear to Lia that he did not want love, let alone a child. But lo and behold, he's a father! Lia was doing the right thing as a mother by putting her child first, but Roark hated her. His actions to her were so cruel that I almost cried at some parts. What horrible person ignores his wife by day and ruthlessly has sex (notice I did not say make love) with her every night as if she is merely some brood mare? A disgrace to men, thats who! God, Lia is wasting her time and good self by devoting herself to a creep like him.

The Innocent Dark Seduction Harlequin comics eBook Jennie Lucas Yoriko Minato Reviews

All in all I was thoroughly disappointed by this book. In all honesty, I only picked it up for vanity reasons to begin with the heroine and I share a first name and my name isn't all that common.

Thankfully, the first name is all that I share with the heroine. She is a complete pushover and her reasons for loving Roark and marrying him are completely beyond me. I also did not understand why she married an old Italian man after the passing of her parents, the reasons stated in the book did not strike me as valid reasons and if the old Italian guy was as nice as she claimed it was, he would have helped Lia without her marrying him.

Roark is just a completely unlovable guy and in their marriage he treats Lia as if she is his personal prostitute. No amount of bad childhood the guy had suffered can justify his treatment of Lia. Which made it impossible for me to believe she loved him.

Secret baby plots are not amongst my favorites, but if written well, can be appealing. However, the Innocent Dark Seduction is not of them. With Lia's lack of backbone and Roark's complete and utter lack of lovability, they probably deserve each other.
Is there a rule with MB that authors have to write many pages about a jerk of a hero and his appalling and then leave one or two pages for him to say "I love you" and all is forgiven. The End.
Seriously? The chemistry was great in the beginning. Arrogant hero, feisty heroine, hero works hard to get the girl ..... then...big secret is revealed and he turns into a cold hearted jerk that drains the life right out of the heroine. Then she annoyingly becomes clingy, no pride sobbing mess before she leaves.
After that the hero has a one second epiphany and races back to her.
Now all this has your heart pumping, and you want the hero to learn his lesson and you're waiting...and anticipating...and...nothing. Zilch. He runs in says "I love you" and she's all breathy and like "Am I dreaming" "Oh my darling".
Gag!!! Pathetic ending.
If you're going to the hero a major jerk, please dedicate more time for him to redeem himself!
Wackadoodle fest with a mean hero and a virginal, take it on the chin, heroine.

The H shows up at a fancy schmancy party to persuade the hostess, a newly widowed h, to sell the parcel she says she wants to put a 26 acre park in NYC to honor her dead sister. He's sure he can convince her as she must be a gold digger to marry an old guy. Eye roll.

H bids a cool million to dance with her, kisses her in the middle of the dance floor. She melts into a disgusting mess of HarleyLand heroine at the kiss (two weeks a widow) then she runs, no, sprints out of the fundraiser all the way to Italy.

The stalker hero follows her to Italy and has sex with her. She's a virgin! Yippee. Too bad she's also the daughter of the man he hounded out of business which led to her father's heart attack which led to her sister dying of a brain tumor which led to her mother committing suicide so she doesn't really like him. This is the house the H built...They have words, and he wins as his words are nastier.

18 months later. Excellent sex, again. She lies; he discovers what happens when a virgin has unprotected sex with a Harley hero. A baby.

All along, the H has said he doesn't EVER want a family or a child. EVER. Once he finds out he has a plot moppet, he goes from seductive Rico Suave to Cruel BIG FAT JERK. They marry and he treats her like an official bootie call.

It was all fun and games until he found out about the baby he never wanted.

He's cruel, he's dismissive, he's arrogant.
I have no problem with a heroine who starts out as a doormat. Who hasn't been a fool for love? Especially if it's your first time around, you're going to give your all. I also have no problem with a hero who acts like a real SOB. It definitely adds tension and I love it when they have to face the error of their ways... but he didn't, not really. She left him and he pretty much immediately realized he loved her, went to find her and she took him back with open arms. Yep, that's it. No groveling, no proving himself, nothing. Really?
I am really glad I didn't listen to the negative reviews, as this was beautiful written story. it may be your typical romance but the author did a good job. I couldn't put it down and reread it the next day.
